1. If you’d never seen the show before, you might assume that it was about opera singers. This was exactly what HBO was worried about. So that they wouldn’t confuse the viewers, they made the “r” in the title logo into the shape of a gun.
2. Maybe this was even more essential when you consider that Jamie Lynn-Sigler (Meadow Soprano) did indeed think the show was about opera singers when she was auditioning.
3. The director, David Chase, revealed that if the pilot of the show was unsuccessful, he’d have gone on to release a film instead. The end of the film would have featured a panicked Tony Soprano trying to suffocate his mother with a pillow.
4. Conversations within the real-life mafia family DeCavalcantes were being secretly taped by federal investigators in New Jersey, 1999. They can be heard to compare themselves to the DiMeo/Soprano family from The Sopranos. An NJ mobster is heard to say, “Is this supposed to be us?”
