6-Year-Old Girl Looks After Paralysed Father After Mother Abandons Them

Imagine you’re going about your day, living your life when all of a sudden someone in your family is involved in an incident that changes your lives forever. Imagine it’s your father and you’ve just received news that he’s been in an accident where a taxi he was riding in crashed into a ditch, leaving him paralysed from the chest down and no longer able to fend for himself.

Now imagine you’re just 6-years-old.

A pretty freakin’ scary scenario to think about right?

Well, for Jia Jia, a child from Ningxia Province in China, this is her reality.

Not only that, but shortly after a taxi crash left her beloved dad Tian Haicheng, permanently injured her mother left the family. Taking Jia Jia’s brother with her.

So, now there is just the two of them, left to fight for themselves. Life can be brutally cruel sometimes.

But, this is not just a story of heartbreak but one of hope and a reason to have faith in humanity too. Because, when faced with a situation no child should have to be involved in, Jia Jia hasn’t just simply given up. Instead she has proven that she’s quite the extraordinary young girl by playing a vital role in her fathers day-to-day care, despite her tender age.

This consists of waking up every morning at the crack of dawn (6am) to begin her father’s care regime. Including massaging his muscles for half an hour, assisting him in getting up, dressed and ready for the day… all before she then heads off to school herself.

During the daytime, her grandparents take responsibility so that he’s not left alone all day.

Then, when she arrives home, there’s no playing out with friends or enjoying a relaxing evening watching cartoons. Instead she aids his movements around the house, prepares his dinner and helps him back into bed at the end of the day.

This process is repeated every single day and after reading some of the things she’s said, you’ll realise just how much of a little trooper she really is!

Jia Jia explained to the Yangtzi Evening News:

Looking after my dad, I don’t feel tired at all.

When speaking about his wife and son, who he hasn’t heard a peep from since they left, Tian Haicheng said:

She told me on the day that she was going to stay in her mother’s home for a few days. But she never returned, and she took our son with her.

Talk about your whole world being turned upside down in a short space of time!

Tian describes Jia Jia as his ‘hands’ and the two appear to have formed an incredibly close bond since the accident took place.

His daughter was asked about her mother and whether she misses her, Jia Jia’s reply was simple:

No, because she doesn’t look after dad. But I miss my brother. I used to be very close to him. I miss him.

No child should ever have to be put in this position, nor should any parent have to go through such an extreme case of helpless role reversal.

Hopefully, through the exposure of their story, the pair will gain access to more help going forward. Jia Jia is a wonderful, selfless young girl who deserves her own childhood and i’m sure that’s exactly what Tian wishes he could provide for her.
