Getting with a guy is only the start. You also need to ensure that you don’t constantly do things that annoy them without your knowledge. These tips are also just as applicable to those of you who are single and looking to find Mr Right.
1. POST FIGHT STATUS UPDATES
You may have seen some of your friends post status updates about their boyfriend after they have had a fight. The updates are usually quite cryptic like —“I suppose my expectations are just too high for some people”. Well you need to refrain from doing this because it is just immature and makes you look like an idiot. Very quickly comments start appearing from friends or other guys that used to have their eye on you saying things like “Uh-uh, trouble in paradise?” This will anony your boyfriend and really does nothing for your relationship.
You need to remember that the chances are you will make up with him quite soon but the post will remain out there with people commenting on it.
2. FRIENDING A STALKERISH EX
Even though you may have broken up with him a log time ago. Even if in your mind you are just friends with this guy. If one of your ex’s (especially good looking ones) are on your friends list and constantly getting involved with your profile, your new man will not like it. Maybe you are good friends with your ex and do not want to remove them. Just know that Mr New Guy isn’t happy.
3. PAYING HIM A LOADED COMPLIMENT
If he bought you some nice flowers and you want to upload them to Facebook with the caption “Wow, I’m lucky!” then go right ahead. Guys do like that kind of an ego massage. Do however be careful about who you’re really giving credit to in your post. For instance, something like “Finally got him to take me to see the new Hunger Games Movie!” is a loaded statement, because it gives the impression that he just “gave in,” rather than did something amazing for you. Rather than making him feel appreciated, you end up aggravating him and ruining the whole initial gift.
4. GETTING TOO EAGER
Changing your relationship status, tagging him in a bunch of photos, or tweeting about being out “with the new BF,” too soon can be a major turn-off. It is always a good idea to have a chat with your new guy first to ask him what he thinks to that kind of thing. It may sound silly but you can actually end your relationship before it starts by being too pushy and quick with this stuff.
5. GETTING IT OUT ON A DATE
You may be used to getting your phone or camera out when you are out with your friends. You may have also used to do it a lot with your ex. Just remember that your new man may not be that way inclined and when chatting over dinner, he may find it rude if you start snapping away and tagging pics of your meal onto Instagram.
6. MARKING YOUR TERRITORY
It might seem cute to tweet him, friend him, and write all over his wall, since that’s what you do with your friends. But to men, that can come off as needy and insecure, since it sort of looks like you’re trying to make sure all of his (female) friends know you exist. Here’s a good rule of thumb: If it’s something that would be easier to share over a phone call or text (like “Had a great time last night!”), all of his followers do not need to see it.
7. CONNECTING TOO MUCH
If you find yourself sharing something important with your followers before your guy, it could mean your social networking is stifling the growth of your real life relationship with him. It sounds extreme, but spending too much time on social media can actually make you value your relationship less. Part of what you’re getting from a relationship is someone to talk to, relate to, and share experiences with.
8. PINTERESTING YOUR FUTURE WEDDING
You may think it’s harmless and fun to pin your dream gown and bridesmaid dresses, but guys see that as a big red flag. “It says you’re more interested in being married in general than getting married to someone specific,” says Nicholson. We doubt your dude is on Pinterest anyway, so just make sure you don’t link it to your other accounts where it might slap him in the face. Then pin away.
SHARE this advice with your friends to help them avoid making any of these errors.
