Ashton Kutcher is probably best known for his starring roles in TV programmes such as That ’70s Show and The Ranch, as well as forming one half of a well-known celebrity couple alongside his wife Mila Kunis. But what you may not realise is that the former male model is also a respected investor and entrepreneur. Kutcher has previously invested in some of the most successful companies to start up in recent years, including Airbnb, Spotify and Uber.

On top of all his financial investments, you might be even more surprised to learn that Ashton Kutcher is actually a prominent figure in the anti-human trafficking effort.

In 2016, Ashton appeared on The Today Show to promote his Netflix series The Ranch. But the conversation soon turned to Thorn: Digital Defenders of Children — an organisation he and his actress ex-wife Demi Moore founded in 2008. The charity works alongside US law enforcement in order to capture and identify human traffickers using various digital strategies.

Thorn reported that in 2015, 75 percent of child sex trafficking survivors it surveyed were eventually ‘sold’ online. “Basically, the purchase and commerce for human trafficking is happening online, just like everything else now, and so we’re building digital tools to fight back against it,” Ashton said.

In one year alone, Ashton and his company identified and recovered over 6,000 trafficking victims, as well as managing to identify over 2,000 traffickers.

This is a staggering statistic, and one that shows just how successful Thorn has been to date. Instead of using the charity as a platform to bolster his fame, many people are completely unaware of his work with Thorn.

Perhaps even more impressively, Ashton has now pledged to completely rid the internet of child pornography. Good luck Ashton and good riddance to child exploitation.
