Many of us were big fans of Deadwood, which was on our screens from 2004 until 2006. For those of you who need a reminder, Deadwood was an American western TV show that ran for 3 series and a total of 36 episodes.
The show was set in the 1870s in Deadwood, South Dakota, and followed Deadwood’s growth from a camp into a town, The show had a large cast and featured many historical figures as characters, including Wyatt Earp and Calamity Jane.
British fans were of course eager to see Ian McShane in a leading role, he having been star of the popular TV show ‘Lovejoy’ back in the late 80s and early 90s. McShane received critical acclaim for his performance in Deadwood, and gained many new fans on both sides of the pond.
Deadwood is regarded as one of the greatest TV dramas of all time, and won 8 Emmy Awards (out of 28 nominations) and one Golden Globe.
Ever since the show ended there was talk about plans to conclude it with 2 (TV based) films, and these rumours intensified in recent years with news that the show’s creator, David Milch, had been working on a script for a TV movie. And finally there has been confirmation that something is definitely on the horizon…
HBO have confirmed that production on a Deadwood revival film is set to start in the autumn of 2018. It will be in the form of a two hour special, and will bring back most of the key cast of the original show. We should be able to see the finished product some time in 2019.
