Friends Who Promised To Marry At 50 If They Were Both Single Finally Tie The Knot

It’s the kind of thing you think could only happen on a TV programme, but now it’s actually occurred in real life! Two friends in America who promised each other that if they were both single at the age of 50, they would marry, have now officially tied the knot.

Kimberley Dean, 51, and Ron Palmer, 54, have married after a whopping 37 years of friendship.

The couple are both from Minnesota and were actually high-school sweethearts before deciding to part ways. Ron said at the time that he wanted to ‘sow [his] wild oats’ and split up with Kimberley as a result.

“I thought at that young age, girls were a dime a dozen and I could get along with anybody – so we broke up,” he told the Daily Mail.

But we broke up on good terms. We remained friends.”

After that initial separation, the couple stayed in touch and watched each other go through a number of different relationships. Eventually they grew fed up of the dating scene and decided to make a pact: to wed each other should they both be single at 50.

“It was a complete joke,” Kimberley said.

“We were both single at the time and we were just both fed up with dating and all the craziness that goes with that.” We know how they feel!

At one point, Kimberley got married and had two children, but the union ended in divorce. Ron was there to support her through that difficult time and ended up bonding with both of her kids, even taking them on camping trips over the years.

They got married last Friday in a moving ceremony which saw Kimberley’s daughter acting as maid of honour and her son Konner walking her down the aisle.

Asked if they had any regrets, Kimberley said that she was only sorry she didn’t tie the knot with Ron sooner!

“Everybody jokes, ‘Well, it’s about dang time’. We waited a long time to finally get to this point,” she said.

“Everything you go through to get to here was worth it. I just wish it could have been a little earlier. What can I say? I love him. I’m head over heels.”

Her groom Ron was just as ecstatic about the marriage and after the ceremony he gushed about his new bride.

“We started out as friends, we fell in love and we parted as friends, but we still cared for each other. I’ve always loved her because she’s such an awesome friend.”

Awww! We bet there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
