The thought of a loved one dying is a terrible thought to have, particularly when they were murdered. That thought is another to petrify anybody!
Nicola Cross, who was 37-years-old at the time she was murdered, was stabbed randomly when a complete stranger decided to break into her home.
Marcin Porzynki was armed with a knife when he broke into Nicola’s home. He was a complete stranger to the cross family. Marcin suffers from Schizophrenia.
The killer was attempting to go upstairs, where the children were sleeping. Nicola put herself in the way of the killer’s path, fearing that he would hurt them or kidnap her young children.
Nicola called her husband, Daniel, in a panic, but unfortunately, it meant Daniel heard his wife be murdered while he was on the phone to her. It must have been one of the most heartbreaking and terrifying things anyone could ever hear.
The murder took place on the 14th of September 2015, at the family’s home in HemelHampsteadd, Hertfoardshire.
Nicola was stabbed 10 times and eventually died of her injuries.
The polish national was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia during the attack. The voices in his head were telling him to ‘free’ children, or risk harm to his family.
Marcin was brought to tears by the effects of his actions after hearing Daniel’s statement which was read out in court. ‘No future happiness, no end to this trauma until my life comes to an end.’
According to the prosecutor, Marcin was wondering the street hours before the attack, knocking on doors and asking if any children lived there.
Police took Marcin home around 11 pm after Nicola called the police to inform him that Marcin was snooping outside her house and looking through the windows. However, he shortly returned to Nicola’s house and eventually barged his way into the house.
