The new season of Love Island kicked off last night, with plenty of drama already underway. One of the biggest twists of the first episode involved hunky personal trainer Adam Collard, 22, who was thrown into the mix just moments after contestants had coupled-up. Just to spice things up even further, Adam immediately declared he was interested in Dani Dyer.
However, ITV viewers were left frustrated by a massive cliff-hanger when last night’s episode ended before Adam had made his choice.
Aside from all the drama, the arrival of the 6″2 Geordie sparked a frenzy on social media, with millions of viewers wondering who the new mystery man could be. Read on to find out more about about Adam, his fitness obsession, and what he’s looking for in a woman…
As you may have worked out from his washboard abs, Adam is a personal trainer who describes himself as ‘tall’, ‘dark’ and ‘in good shape’. The 22-year-old reckons his line of work will help him get on with the other contestants: ‘I speak to lots of new people every day through my job so I can always relate to someone somehow’.
Adam’s fitness obsession has previously conflicted with his love life. He once pretended to be stuck in the airport so he wouldn’t have to eat pizza with his then-girlfriend. “I was on a really serious prep for a fitness shoot… I couldn’t be near pizza,” he says. “That was the best shape I’ve ever been in at the time.” Any lucky ladies in the villa might have to contend with his devotion to exercise…
Adam claims to have had two serious ex-girlfriends. “I’ve had a couple of relationships where they’ve been a year and a half. The one before last which was when I was younger, I did mess her about and cheat on her which caused a lot of arguments but I was a lot younger. The one I was with last, I genuinely thought at the time that I was in love with her and I was completely loyal. I still got a lot of attention but I genuinely didn’t cheat.”
He told the RadioTimes.com that having sex on TV isn’t a big deal for him. “You can’t really see much. I’m in there for eight weeks and I’m sharing a bed with someone, so I’m not going to be surprised if something happens.”
So what is he looking for in a potential match? The Geordie personal trainer “dominant girl who keeps me on my toes but who is also genuine and down to earth and who I could take home to family if I wanted to”. He “can’t stand” girls who are too materialistic or have bad teeth.
But it’s not just girls that Adam is concerned with, “I think there’ll be a bromance as much as there’ll be a romance,” he says.
Overall, he has a relaxed approach to finding love in the house – “I just want to have a good time and see what happens,” he says. “I like meeting people and talking to everybody so I think even if I do or I don’t find Mrs Right, it’ll be fine.”
We can’t wait to see what adventures Adam gets up to in the villa. In last night’s episode, his arrival already sparked a rivalry between Samira Mighty and Laura Anderson, who were both keen to be whisked away by the hunky personal trainer.
After Samira and Laura had a chat about recent developments, Laura wasted no time in telling Adam that he was more her type than Wes. Her eagerness definitely won out when Adam eventually worked his way around to speaking with Laura, telling her: “I fancy you; you’re beautiful,” as she shyly smiled and thanked him.
But who will he choose? Tune in to the big reveal tonight at 9pm on ITV2!
