Rainbow cupcakes are a great idea for any kids party or even a grown up function.
In order to make them you will need some basic tools and ingredients. The good news is that with the right equipment, they are not tricky at all.
After making a basic cupcake as we have covered in earlier videos, you will need to get some piping bags and the desired tip.
The technique laid out in the video below is perfect for beginners because they are so forgiving. You may notice in the video, the frosting is very soft due to the studio lighting. In your kitchen it should be even easier.
Put 2 or 3 colours of butter cream in your piping bag to achieve the rainbow effect.
So with the cupcake in one hand and the piping bag in the other, start to ice the cupcakes in a swirling motion. Leave the edges clear of icing and use the same amount on each cake.
After icing the cakes, you should leave them to stand for around 30 minutes minimum. This will allow the icing to set a little.
Then all that’s left is to enjoy!
