Can you believe it is 19 years since the Matilda film was first released?
It was all the back back in August 2 1996 that cinemagoers got their first taste of Mara Wilson as Roald Dahl’s feisty, pint-sized heroine.
Now all this time later, we thought it would be interesting to see what the stats of the movie are up to.
Mara Wilson (Matilda Wormwood) was also in Mrs Doubtfire…
Danny DeVito starred as crooked car dealer Harry Wormwood as well as directing the film…
…now aged 71, he’s a regular on the sitcom hit It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia.
Pam Ferris was terrifying as the movie’s shot-putt wielding headteacher Miss Trunchbull
…these days the now 67-year-old actress is better known for a gentler role, as Call The Midwife’s Sister Evangelina
Embeth Davidtz starred as the kinder, gentler schoolteacher Miss Honey, who sees Matilda’s potential…
..more recently Embeth, now 49, appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel as Mary Parker.
The actress (who is married to Danny DeVito) is now 67 and has continued to work steadily in films and on TV, most recently with a regular role on The Mindy Project.
Rhea Perlman was already well known for her role as Carla Tortelli in Cheers before playing Matilda’s vapid mother Zinia Wormwood…
Jacqueline Steiger starred as Amanda Thripp, whose pigtails led her to be sent flying through an open window by Miss Trunchbull.
These days Jacqueline, now 28, has a degree in Linguistics and Anthropology, and has worked as a producer on several short films.
Jimmy Karz played cake enthuiast Bruce Bogtrotter in the film, before going on to appear in another 90s hit, The Wedding Singer.
Now aged 30, Jimmy – who we’ll be honest, looks a little different – has swapped acting for medical school. Still, his place in chocolate-cake eating history will not be forgotten…
