Study Reveals That Eating Lots Of Chocolate Makes You Smarter

No matter what studies and research we’re shown, nothing is ever going to convince us that chocolate is good for our waist-line. We love it, we eat it and we enjoy it, but we also know that we’re going to have to do an extra load of exercise to to burn it off again…

So let’s forget about our once slender figures, because we’ve left them back in the 80s and 90s, never to be seen again. But what if chocolate was good for us, just in a completely different area of our bodies?

We’ve got some good news, because chocolate has been found to have a positive association with cognitive performance, according to a study that was published in the journal ‘Appetite’…

The Study

In the study, 968 people aged between 23 and 98 were measured for ‘dietary intake and cardiovascular risk factors’, as well as cognitive function…

The Results

The results of the study showed that people who ate chocolate frequently were “significantly associated with better performance on cognitive tests including visual-spatial memory and organisation, working memory, scanning and tracking, abstract reasoning and the mini-mental state examination”. Basically, their brain worked better!

‘Cocoa flavanols’, found in chocolate, are what is being associated with the positive brain function. High levels of flavanols and are also found in some fruits such as apples and grapes, as well as in tea and red wine.

Much to our delight, the researchers were able to conclude that the results suggest that “regular intake of cocoa flavanols may have a beneficial effect on cognitive function, and also possibly protect against normal age-related cognitive decline”.

So this Christmas you can forget about your waist measurement and concentrate on improving your brain, by enjoying your favourite festive chocolaty treat…

Be sure to tell your chocolate loving friends about these fantastic new results, and make sure you ask Father Christmas to slip an extra selection box into your stocking!
