James Buckley was made famous from his role of Jay in popular British TV comedy The Inbetweeners.
After turning 30, the actor has managed to fulfill a childhood dream, as he’s set to appear on one of his favourite sci-fi shows.
Not that you’d be able to tell it was him when you watch the new series of Red Dwarf, as he’s been given the ‘Kryten’ treatment!
Buckley will feature in one episode of the new 12th season of the Dave show, where all of the main characters are made to look like the mechanoid character.
During an interview, the actor revealed that he was oblivious to the fact that he’d been made to look like Kryten until the day before they began filming!
He said: “The way it was pitched to me was ‘You’ll be an alien or something. No-one will recognise you’.
“Then the day before I did a make-up test and they put the Kryten android stuff on me. I s*** myself.”
When Craig Charles asked James if he enjoyed the experience filming the cameo appearance, Buckley joked: “It was sort of like Make A Wish. Someone went to me ‘Would you like to be in an episode of Red Dwarf?'”
However he recieved nothing but praise for his work as a militant in the episode, with his co-star commenting: “You’re quite funny in it, well done.”
James Buckley is only one of several guest stars to appear in the newest series, with another celebrity being the hilarious Johnny Vegas.
For the avid watchers of Red Dwarf out there, you’ll be pleased to know that the cast shot six brand new episodes all in front of a live audience down at Pinewood Studios.
The show’s return, Red Dwarf XII, will be premiered on Dave on October 12th.
And keep your eyes peeled for Buckley!
