Ever wondered what the characters in the Simpsons would look like in real life? It’s a question that’s been asked and answered a few times before. But this time, it’s different.

Instead of just drawing them as humans, artist Milan Jaram used artificial intelligence to see what the likes of Homer and Marge would look like, and the results are startling. More info: milanjaram.com | Instagram | TikTok

Here are 28 of your favourites, brought to life.

Groundskeeper Willie

Everyone’s favourite Scottish cliché in cartoon form, now brought to life as real human being!

This is in no way terrifying, is it? A perfectly calming image. Truth be told, there are shades of Van Gogh to this.

Maggie

Seeing as though she has yellow hair that’s an extension of her yellow skin, Maggie has been made ginger by the artist.

There’s not much resemblance here, we have to say. Though there isn’t an awful lot to work from when it comes to animated babies.

Bart Simpson

Now this is a bit more like it. Without being told, you could probably guess which Simpsons character this was.

We’re not so sure about the move to change his shirt colour from orange to blue. Probably because his human hair is apparently orange.

Comic Book Guy

Lock up your kids, it’s the human rendering of the pedantic but lovable Comic Book Guy!

This is not somebody you would want to meet in any context, anywhere, except maybe in a documentary about people serving life sentences.

Mr Burns

This one isn’t so much of a shock. We know Mr Burns, through his background and storylines, is a very withered and unattractive piece of work.

The AI has gotten this one bang on.

Otto

Otto, the former Springfield Elementary student-turned-bus driver, is a simple man with simple pleasures. Mostly heavy metal and plants.

Here, he’s ditched the usual t-shirt, shorts and headphones look for a… suit?

Homer Simpson

Oh my God. I thought Homer was supposed to be a charming, impish, buffoon?

This isn’t Homer. This is a former Navy SEAL turned vigilante. Getting strangled by whatever this is would not be fun.

Moe

Who doesn’t love Moe? Springfield’s neurotic, often grouchy barman has served the denizens of the world’s favourite cartoon for over thirty years now.

As for his AI rendition… we’re not so sure. In fact, it looks nothing like him. Back to the drawing board.

Grandpa Simpson

Grandpa Simpson, or as AI imagines it: What if Colonel Sanders and the guy who fixes Woody’s arm in Toy Story 2 had a baby that was haunted?

Why this one is in black and white is anyone’s guess. Still, fun to look at!

Dr Hibbert

No, this is not infamous Marvel villain, the Kingpin.

This is the happy-go-lucky Dr Hibbert looking suitably plump if not a little glitzy – like a preacher.

Lenny

Despite coming across as a naïve, if not dim, regular Joe in The Simpsons, Lenny actually has a master’s degree in nuclear physics.

His AI result is wonky-eyed and not someone you would want within ten miles of a nuclear power plant.

Carl

And then we have Carl Carlson, another employee of Springfield’s power plant.

Carl is less green than Lenny. And according to this AI image, he was also a former member of The Temptations.

Santa’s Little Helper

This is one of the more accurate ones.

This computer-generated dog could actually work as a live-action version of Santa’s Little Helper, should they ever make that kind of movie.

Ralph

This doesn’t look like Ralph, but you can’t argue that it doesn’t have extreme Ralph Energy.

Things aren’t smooth sailing or straightforward for this fella, are they?

Barney

Holy moly. We’ve got the same problem here that we have with Homer’s AI result.

Barney Gumble is a friendly, good-natured boozehound. He is not the cop from Breaking Bad.

Fat Tony

Springfield is already afraid of Fat Tony, and they’re right to be, with his ghoulish sunken eyes and reputation.

Imagine if he looked like this! Ten times the fear.

Milhouse

Milhouse Van Houten is the geeky sidekick of Bart Simpson. An only child held back by extreme short-sightedness and naivete.

Here, Milhouse is a precocious social activist hellbent on putting a stop to greenhouse emissions.

Smithers

So I guess we know Eugene Levy can play Smithers in a live-action Simpsons adaptation.

The faithful servant to Mr Burns manages to look both approachable and troubling here.

Lisa Simpson

Lisa Simpson is a clever, caring girl. Someone to go out of her way to make sure you’re doing good.

Whoever this is looks like they’d place an ancient curse on you.

Troy McClure

Hey, this is Troy McClure, you may know him from his reoccurring appearances on The Simpsons back in the 1990s where he played a B-movie actor willing to sell anything so long as he remained relevant.

Sadly, the voice behind Troy is no longer with us. But his character lives on in the world of Artificial Intelligence.

Chief Wiggum

Father to Ralph, Clancy Wiggum is Springfield’s doughnut-munching, rather useless, chief of police.

This picture makes him look a lot more serious about fighting crime than he is on the show.

Marge Simpson

OK, it’s pretty difficult to make someone who has blue hair shaped like an ice lolly look like a real human.

You have to embrace the madness here and imagine that this is what people may look like in the future. It’s quite space-agey.

Patty and Selma

Her sisters, Patty and Selma, on the other hand, look far more realistic.

These chain smoking grouches are what people look like in the present.

Ned Flanders

Poor Ned Flanders. He means well, and doesn’t deserve all the misfortune that befalls him, not least the death of his wife Maude.

This is a fitting AI representation, equally optimistic and wistful.

Apu

Apu Nahasapeemapetilan is the Indian proprietor of the Kwik-E-Mart, known for his need to please and the catchphrase, “Thank you, come again!”

This AI is fairly normal, I suppose. Though, it doesn’t quite capture the cheerful spirit of Apu.

Krusty the Clown

To say Krusty the Clown is a worn-down, depressive, cynic, a lot of Simpsons have taken to him over the years.

Originally designed as Homer wearing clown make-up, Krusty eventually became his own entity.

Edna Krabappel

This does not do Edna any justice whatsoever.

Unless Edna isn’t supposed to be attractive in the show and then this is pretty bang-on…

Principal Skinner

Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall.

Hang on, this is supposed to be Skinner. Oops. If there’s anything you can say about this, it’s probably the most believable AI out of the lot.
