90s Kids Rejoice – Matilda Is Back On The Big Screen!

Be still the beating hearts of 90s children everywhere, because movie classic Matilda is coming back to the big screen – with a twist!

Inner childs across the country are jumping for joy, as for the first time the 1991 adaption of Roald Dahl’s children’s novel will appear in cinema’s across the UK, and it looks as though it’s going to be one heck of a cinematic experience.

The beloved family flick will be offering scratch and sniff screenings, where audiences will be given a special scented card holding ten scents. They will be prompted to break the seal on each one during key scenes in the film, so prepare yourself in advance for nostalgia overload.

We’re hoping the experience will answer questions that have been plaguing us since childhood. Such as, what did the Chokey actually smell like? And was the aroma of Ms Trunchball’s chocolate cake really enticing enough to be worth such punishment?

The events are part of the Roald Dahl on Film season, which is developed by Film Hub Wales and Chapter in association with the Roald Dahl Literary Estate. The project honours the author on what would have been his 100th birthday, and will also coincide with the 20th anniversary of the film.

However, Matilda won’t be the first classic movie to get the scratch and sniff treatment. The geniuses behind the idea, Bren O’Callaghan and Simon Misra, have also created similar sensory experiences for The Wickerman, The Goonies and Gregory’s Girl. This is their first nation-wide project, and we couldn’t be more excited!

Bren O’Callaghan said: ‘We think Roald Dahl would approve of our playing and acting daft in a space where we’re supposed to behave, sit still and be quiet.

‘If anyone encouraged children to unleash their imagination, he did.’

YES Brian! We completely agree.
