Everyone has had relationships in their lives that they can barely remember today. When we come across a picture of that person from our past, we often wonder what happened. The same case happens with our favorite celebrities as well. These celebrity couples got together even when they were between two very different people. Some of these relationships even lasted a few years. However, all of them ended and many of these people are living happy lives. Let’s have a look at some of these celebrity couples that are mostly forgotten today.

Angelina Jolie & Billy Bob Thornton

Long before Brad Pitt and Angelina were “The” Hollywood couple, she and Billy Bob Thornton were a married couple. The actor and actress were so close, that they kept vials of the other’s blood around their necks. However, after they realized they wanted to live drastically different lives, they divorced in 2003.

Kid Rock & Pamela Anderson

On his short marriage to Pamela Anderson, Kid Rock noted, “I knew it was a bad career move to get involved with her because your life becomes a circus — because that’s what she wants is media attention.” The pair announced to marry in 2006 but divorced months later, weeks after Anderson suffered a miscarriage.

Janet Jackson & Matthew McConaughey

The truth behind this one is elusive, but these two supposedly hit it off after meeting at the 2002 Grammys. It was reported by some paparazzi that McConaughey was seen leaving Jackson’s home the morning after, shoes in hand. “I met her at the Grammys and found her to be a very, very sweet lady. We swapped some good music and she’s a dear lady. She’s a sweetheart but we’re not dating, we’re just friends,” said McConaughey.

Fergie & Justin Timberlake

All the way back in the 90s, Fergie and Justin Timberlake were getting to “know” one another. Interestingly, Justin was only 16 at the time… Fergie was 23.

Ryan Reynolds & Alanis Morrisette

In 2002, comedy-hunk Ryan Reynolds and singer Alanis Morrisette began dating. In 2004, Reynolds proposed to Morrisette but the couple eventually broke up after a three-year-long engagement in 2007. Zac Efron & Michelle Rodriguez

All the way back in 2014, teen heartthrob Zac Efron and Fast and Furious star Michelle Rodriguez were seen getting close on a yacht in Ibiza, Spain. More pictures of the couple began to spread but the relationship was over before it started. The quick fling lasted a mere two months.

Jennifer Lawrence & Chris Martin

In 2014, actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay singer Chris Martin began their separation. In fact, they called the split a “conscious uncoupling.” Shortly after, Martin began to take up a relationship with another actress, Jennifer Lawrence. This relationship, although on and off for two years, lasted four months at its longest in 2014.

Macaulay Culkin & Mila Kunis

Although it’s somewhat of a fairy tale ending for That 70’s Show co-stars, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, the latter had actually been in a relationship with Home Alone star, Macaulay Culkin, for eight long years. The details are scarce on the “why,” but Kunis later said ‘I was an a** in my 20s and I’ll be the first to admit it. And that’s something that took me a long time to come out and be like, “Yeah, you know what, I was a d**k,” and accept it and I own it now.’

Tom Cruise & Cher

One of the more unlikely couples you’re like to remember from the 80s was that of action star, Tom Cruise, and pop icon, Cher. They supposedly bonded over their mutual dyslexia condition when they met at Sean Penn and Madonna’s wedding in 1985.

Moby & Natalie Portman

When he was 33 and she was 20, Moby and Natalie Portman hit it off after one of his shows. At 20, Portman was still a student at Harvard University. After its end, Moby went on the record to say, “as far as the very brief affair I had with Natalie, it’s made me the target of a lot of nerd wrath. You can’t date Luke Skywalker’s mom and not have them hate your guts.” Portman, however, claims they never dated.

Brody Jenner & Avril Lavigne

Premiering in 2005, Jennifer Love Hewitt & Jamie Kennedy co-starred together on CBS’ Ghost Whisperer. After a year of dating, the pair broke up. Chelsea Handler & 50 Cent

50 Cent had this relatively positive message about his time spent with Chelsea Handler – “Chelsea is confident. I think confidence is the sexiest thing about a person. She’s the kind of person that if you’re blessed with the opportunity to hang out with her, you’ll enjoy it. I’m not sure you’ll look at her and actually want to jump over the table and f*ck her, but you might. You would leave after talking with her feeling that she is a cool person.”

Carson Daly & Tara Reid

“To some extent, I dodged a bullet. I was getting serious about my career, and she wanted to shoot movies and just party in her time off. That didn’t work for me… I realized I’d have more in common with a regular person than with a celebrity. There were values I was more likely to find in a nice, midwestern girl than one who was living on the coast, pursuing fame.”

Jessica Simpson & John Mayer

These days, Simpson is married to Eric Johnson while Mayer has dated the likes of powerful women like Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Jennifer Aniston. Still, Simpson and Mayer had a year-long fling after her 2006 divorce from Nick Lachey.

Amy Poehler & John Stamos

After her divorce from Will Arnett, Poehler had the following to say… “He did a little bit in a movie that I did and a bunch of us hung out. And then later on he’s like, ‘Let’s go get dinner. And it was fine. I remember thinking like, ‘Oh, s–t. Like, if this is really a date…’ I think I was wearing a Leslie Knope top. I think I was wearing a shirt from work.”

Drew Barrymore & Christian Bale

There was once a time when Drew Barrymore was taken on a date by Christian Bale to an “awful” horror film. Whether he was disappointed when “she never called again,” we don’t know. Still, in 2015 Barrymore spilled the beans about the encounter to Watch What Happens Live host, Andy Cohen. “I don’t know! He was so nice. I wasn’t like super boy crazy. I had a lot of fish to fry, like I had big problems in my world for many years, like in good ways—things you gotta overcome … boys is like very secondary.”

Pink & Joey Fatone

“Joey Fatone was in love with me… He took me to Friendly’s on a date and he bought me ice cream. Such a sweetheart. He asked my dad’s permission!” What a gentleman!

Cameron Diaz & Benji Madden

Sometimes love comes in all sorts of sizes. The blonde and beautiful Cameron Diaz met punk king, Benji Madden, when Benji’s sister-in-law, Nicole Richie, introduced the two of them. Seven months together led to a 17-day engagement and then marriage in 2015. They happily have one child together.

Mary-Kate Olsen & Olivier Sarkozy

As one of the more interesting couples on this list, former child-star Mary-Kate Olsen married Pierre Olivier Sarkozy, a French, US-based, banker, back in 2015. They began their relationship long before in 2012. However, the pair have separated as of September 2020.

This one has always left a poor taste in everyone’s mouth, even to this day. Comedian and film director, Woody Allen, was at the time seeing Mia Farrow. Allen and Previn would end up getting married and having two children. They’re still together today.

Kate Hudson & Alex Rodriguez

Is there anyone that A-Rod hasn’t dated? He and Kate Hudson got together in May 2009 after Kate’s divorce from Chris Robinson. While the relationship only lasted until December of that year, Kate was at every Yankees game that season to cheer on A-Rod, including the World Series, which the Yankees won.

Sarah Jessica Parker & Robert Downey Jr.

You may not have known that Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey Jr. dated for quite a while – from 1984 to 1991, to be exact. They met on the set of Firstborn while they were both just 18, and decided to move in together in LA after just a couple of weeks of dating. While they both look happy in this photo, it’s pretty hard to find a photo of them where Ms. Parker doesn’t look miserable, so perhaps their breakup was for the best.

Penelope Cruz & Tom Cruise

They’ve essentially got the same last name, so it had to be fate from the start, right? Not so, apparently. They met on the set of Vanilla Sky in 2001 and broke up in 2004. Tom was reportedly devastated and had planned to propose, but Penelope felt that his involvement with the Church of Scientology was getting to be too much.

John Krasinski & Rashida Jones

Rashida Jones and John Krasinski actually started dating before working on The Office together and ended things before Jones began playing the role of Karen Filippelli. Brad Pitt & Christina Applegate

Christina Applegate and Brad Pitt got together in 1988 right before either of them reached peak stardom. They ended things not too long after and Applegate revealed years later that she had ditched Pitt at the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards for “another man,” who remains a mystery to this day. Imagine ditching Brad Pitt in this day and age!

Taylor Swift & Joe Jonas

Taylor Swift and Joe Jonas were only together for a few months from July 2008 to October 2008. Of course, their relationship inspired some music from Taylor, including Forever and Always – which features the lyrics “Once upon a time, I believe it was a Tuesday when I caught your eye and we caught onto something” and “Were you just kidding? Cause it seems to me, this thing is breaking down”.

In the end, Joe broke up with Taylor with a 27-second phone call. Taylor references him in the lyrics for Invisible String (part of her 2020 album, Folklore): “Cold was the steel of my ax to grind, for the boys who broke my heart… Now I send their babies presents.”

Rihanna & Shia Labeouf

In 2007, Shia and Rihanna had a one-off date. Shia recalled that when she first texted him, playing with the idea of a date, he was in the middle of filming a sword fight, making him feel like an absolute hero. “It never got beyond one date [though],” he added. “The spark wasn’t there. We weren’t passionate about each other in that way, so we remain friends.”

Julia Roberts & Matthew Perry

Prior to Jamie Dornan’s big role in 50 Shades, he unsurprisingly was working as a model. At the time, he dated actress Keira Knightley when they met on set at an Asprey photoshoot in 2003. Things came to an end for this beautiful couple in August 2005. Helen Mirren & Liam Neeson

These two found themselves reminiscing about their romance during a 2018 appearance on The Graham Norton Show, recalling how they met on the set of Excalibur. “We didn’t [just] date, we lived together for four years,” Dame Helen said. “We were a serious item for a while. Lucky me!”

Neeson added, “Before I met her and we worked together, I had read somewhere that if she fancied a guy she would imitate his walk behind his back. And I turned around one day and she was doing that to me. “I remember being on the set and standing with Ciaran Hinds as Helen walked towards us dressed in her full Morgana Le Fay costume, and we both went, I was smitten. I think Ciaran was too, but I was very smitten.”

Chris Evans & Jessica Biel

Chris Evans and Jessica Biel started dating in 2001 when they were just starting out in Hollywood. They were such a strong couple, in fact, that they even had serious discussions about marriage. “We always talk about it. We both want to be married, and we both want to have children. But we’re not engaged, so the rumors are false… so far.” They split in 2006 after five years together.

Jennifer Lopez & P. Diddy

After J-Lo’s 1998 divorce, she dated producer and rapper, Sean Combs for a year and a half. In a later interview, he said she was without a doubt one of his greatest loves, but she revealed his alleged infidelity was the cause of their 2001 split.

That was a while ago, we’re just really good friends now.”

Joaquin Phoenix & Liv Tyler

Liv and Joaquin dated when they were just 18 years old, but remain close friends and are still a big part of each other’s lives today. “I’m friends with all my exes! I love them so much!” said Liv. “I guess it depends on what happens, right? I consider Joaquin and all of his sisters to be like family. We were so young when we were together, like 18 to 21. He was my first love. So he’s a huge part of even my sense of humor.”

Mark Ronson & Rashida Jones

Rashida Jones and Mark Ronson were in a very committed relationship from 2002 to 2004, and they even got engaged at one point. Nicole Kidman & Lenny Kravitz

Nicole Kidman and Lenny Kravitz dated from 2003 to 2005. She also recently revealed that there was a point in their relationship when they were secretly engaged. He’s a great guy.”

Kim Kardashian & Nick Cannon

Kim and Nick were together from 2006 until 2007. In a 2012 Howard Stern interview, Nick revealed they broke up because Kim ‘lied’ to him about the existence of her now-infamous 2003 sex tape. “We talked about this tape… And she told me there was no tape,” he said at the time. “If she might have been honest with me I might have tried to hold her down and be like ‘That was before me because she is a great girl.” Nick added, “She’s actually one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. But the fact that she lied and told me that there was no tape?”

Paul Rudd & Jennifer Aniston

So you’re telling me that Rachel and Mike from Friends dated in real life? Absolutely, they did. These two reportedly dated for a time while filming The Object of My Affection in 1998. When asked if it was weird to kiss her friend onscreen, Aniston said, “Nah. I’ve kissed him for years.” Rudd added, “We’ve made out for decades.” These two are still great friends and have always been very comfortable with each other.

Matt Damon & Winona Ryder

Matt Damon and Winona Ryder were together for three years from 1997 to 2000. Actually, Gwyneth Paltrow was the one who paired these two together. Justin and Cameron met in 2003 at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards but went their separate ways four years later in 2007. They said in a joint statement:

“It has always been our preference not to comment on the status of our relationship, but, out of respect for the time we’ve spent together, we feel compelled to do so now, in light of recent speculation and the number of inaccurate stories that are being reported by the media. We have, in fact, ended our romantic relationship, and have done so mutually and as friends, with continued love and respect for one another.”

Rachel McAdams & Michael Sheen

Seemingly a rather unconventional couple, Rachel and Michael met on the set of Midnight in Paris and attended the 2011 Cannes Film Festival together. They split in 2013, but she said, “Michael and I never spend more than three weeks apart – we rack up a lot of air miles – but you have to be quite adaptable in this business whether you are in a relationship or not.”

Jake Gyllenhaal & Natalie Portman

The couple dated briefly in 2006, and have stayed friends since. He even joked about her habits when presenting Natalie with the Desert Palm Achievement Award in 2011, commenting, “She’s a vegan, which makes it really frustrating when you’re picking a place to eat.”

Nick Jonas & Miley Cyrus

Nick and Miley dated during their Disney teenage years – and the ‘Party In The USA’ singer was hit pretty hard by the split. “At first I bawled for a month straight. I was so sad. I just went into this weird funk. And I dyed my hair black,” Cyrus told Seventeen.

“When we were dating, Nick wanted me to get highlights—and so I did that, and I got myself looking great. And then, on the day we broke up, I was like, I want to make my hair black now—I don’t want to look pretty; I want to look hard-core. I was rebelling against everything Nick wanted me to be. And then I was like, I’ve got to be by myself for now, and just figure out who I really am.”
