Sorry to start the article with an air of foreboding, but we all know that we will die eventually. In fact, in this world full of uncertainties, there are two things we are sure of – death and taxes. Our end is commemorated through eulogies from our families and friends, but these hilarious headstones are more lasting.

Headstones summarize our whole lives, which is why whoever is writing them (if you have not done so yourself) should do a pretty good job of summarizing our entire lives in a phrase. Yes, some headstones would be an accurate reflection of our lives, but some pretty hilarious headstones intertwine humor and reflect the person’s personality and character. Let us look at some of the hilarious headstones made, and at the end of the article, let us know which ones are your favorite!

Walk Like an Egyptian

Egyptians are known to dream big, and after death, they commemorate their lives not just with a headstone but with a pyramid. Their grand lives are reflected in the hieroglyphics meticulously painted or carved on the pyramid’s walls, and even up today, archaeologists are still trying to unearth pyramids and figure out what life was like back then. This headstone has grand dreams like our Egyptian ancestors and wanted to have a pyramid to reflect his grand life but had no choice but to settle for a pyramid-looking (ish) headstone.

Here is a Chair to Remember Me By

Many people have attachments to things while they are living. Some people have attachments to their designer bags, others cannot live without their favorite blanket, while others love a particular piece of furniture like a chair. For this unique headstone, there are so many questions… Did the person die in this chair? Is that the person’s favorite chair? Did that person want to have that chair before he or she died? Regardless of the answers, it is still a unique (and considerate) headstone for others to remember that person by.

A Headstone

Headstones are meant to be something nice to remember a person by. With this headstone, however, this person took it to be literally a headstone. Let us start with the person lying on his back holding another head. If the purpose of this headstone is to confuse people, then they have succeeded with flying colors.

The Secret About the Afterlife

There are many theories about the afterlife – is there life after death? Do heaven and hell exist? Do we get reincarnated after we die? Furthermore, I guess it is only the dead people who would know the answers to these questions. This headstone accurately depicts that, indeed, he or she knows something that we do not.

‘I Told You So!’

Death often comes because of many untreated diseases. Though this headstone attempts to inject humor with death, it also reflects the journey of many patients in the hopes of becoming healthy. This also reflects the society in general where because of the stigma for sick patients, others would deny that they are ill or ignore them.

Who is That?

Some headstones would have religious icons or statues of angels to “guard” the spirit of whoever is buried underneath. For this headstone, however, we are still pondering on who exactly is that person. First, let us talk about his appearance. He appears to be small and donned jester-like or elf-like clothing, so maybe the person buried needs to be amused in the afterlife? His posture also says that he must be waiting for someone. Perhaps this is him waiting for the love of his life? We are a bit confused about this one.

#ProudMama

Women take a long time to get ready. It seems like the shower for a whole hour, put on make-up, and fix their hair before you can even use the bathroom. Imagine raising four daughters with one bathroom, and you would imagine that there is instant chaos. This Proud Mama, on the other hand, proudly told everyone through the inscription of her headstone that she was able to raise four beautiful daughters with only one bathroom. That in itself needs a gold medal. Way to go, mama!

Wordplay

We are sure that you have met a person with an exciting wordplay name once in your life. The likes of Claire Annette or Lee King. Sure, Noah Scape had his fair share of name puns when he was alive. However, the caption under his name was just a bit sad as it stated, “Always Felt Trapped.” It may be a funny reference to his name, but hopefully, he did not feel that way his entire life.

Hey Jude!

I would bet you that this person’s name was Jude with the song on his headstone. That or he is an avid fan of Steam. This song is often heard in sports arenas where people would belt it out as loud as possible. Come to think of it, it is a befitting song for some who passed away.

Bored Angel

The angel is a depiction of perfection, kindness, and everything good. Therefore, there are many angel statues usually found on a headstone. I am sure, however, that angels might have their off days too. This bored-looking angel seems impatiently waiting for the day to stop guarding headstones and go to heaven with her angel friends. Hang in there, angel!

Couple headstones?

A couple of shirts are all the rave back in the early 2000s. Who would not want to express their love to the world through cute, often cliché shirts? However, this couple decided to take their humor beyond the grave and had a couple of headstones with the ironic “I’m With Stupid” with an arrow pointing to each other. How cute!

I am Confused?

While plenty of headstones will make you smile with a witty one-liner, other headstones are just plain confusing. Take, for instance, this headstone. First off, the statue looks like he is asleep, but he has one arm upwards while holding a rose, which signifies that he probably likes roses? That he is dreaming of roses? Furthermore, what is up with that curvy upper lip or mustache? So many questions are unanswered.

Lazy Bum

We all know that lazy people like to lounge around the house all day and not do anything productive. While this headstone might be a tad bit hurtful (because who would want to be labeled a Lazy Bum even after they are dead?), it certainly catches your attention. Zero points for creativity, though – the phrase is seen all over the internet.

Cause of Death: Chain Messages

Have you ever received a chain message back when cellphones were new, and it just said that you had to forward this message or else you would die? This is what happens when you don’t! Better be safe than sorry next time, guys, and just forward the message. You do not want to end up like this poor guy.

Honesty is the Best Policy

They say that it is okay for you to make a mistake if you are aware of it and not repeat it. Though honest, this person must have realized it a tad bit too late because his mistake cost him his life. Oh, dear! Honesty is still the best policy, though!

Mean Girl

Ahh, mean girls. The world would be a boring place without them. They say that once you are a mean girl, you are always a mean girl. For example, this person dared to put “go away – I am asleep” on his headstone. Don’t you love it when even death cannot make them friendly people?

For Rent

With the skyrocketing prices of real estate, some people do not ever experience owning a house, and they just rent houses. This person took this to the grave with a large “For rent” headstone. He also took a witty one-liner and said that the neighbors are “dead quiet.” That has got to be a plus, right?

Pool, anyone?

Some headstones reflect the personality of the one who died. Some people choose headstones to reflect a hobby, their favorite item or paint their headstone with their favorite color. Three guesses what this couple’s favorite sport is? This unique pool table is one for the books. I wonder, did they meet each other while playing pool, or is it just a sport the pair grew to love together?

Going away in style

Again, this tombstone reflects what the person buried underneath loves the most. It is his BMW! This person is surely going away in style. Just look at that shiny paint job and the detailing! BMW should pay this person (or his family members) for advertising.

Poetry Gone Wrong

At first glance, the poetry is a cool way to honor his wife (check out the cool wordplay for the title!). However, when you reread it, there may be a tinge of something dark and sinister. It may be that Dawn was a nagging wife, and now that she has gone, he can be more at peace? Alternatively, maybe I am reading too much into it, and they both have a dark sense of humor and take turns jabbing at each other.

Computer Geek

It is no surprise that technology has significantly impacted our lives – both positive and negative. On the positive side, everything is instant – you can order food, read the latest celebrity gossip, and check your email in less than 10 minutes. On the flip side, we are fast becoming dependent on our gadgets to function by ourselves. This person must have loved computers so much he wanted to take his computer to the grave!

Art Deco

This fancy art deco-inspired tombstone points out the obvious – that the person is DEAD. Points for creativity, though, as this headstone look and feel very modern and chic. Maybe this person was an interior decorator and wants her tombstone to be stylish? We’ll never know.

Parking Spot

With our cities saturated with people and cars, finding a good and safe parking spot can be frustrating. This couple shares our sentiment with their headstone inscription, saying they finally found a parking spot in the city! Too bad they would not be able to leave that parking spot for a long while, but props for creativity!

Name Wordplay

You can find witty word plays with headstones that I am sure are not the person’s fault. Take, for example, this person whose name is John Yeast. His headstone inscription takes a jab at him not rising because he is now in his final resting stage. I am sure that with his surname, he must have a challenging childhood.

Bring back the Dead

Ouija boards are typically used during seances to summon the dead. I am sure that the person is either a medium or fond of using Ouija boards back when this person was alive with this tombstone. Regardless, it is a bold move for him or her to have this on his or her tombstone – does this person want to be summoned back to life?

Her feet were killing her

This person took the phrase “my feet are killing me” quite literally because, frankly, her feet killed her. Now, since she is dead, we can only speculate how her feet killed her. Is she fond of using heels and somehow hitting a nerve that killed her? Or did she have a cut on her feet that somehow grew into an infection and killed her?

YOLO!

Again, this tombstone showcases and summarizes Uncle Walter’s life, who lived a grand life of throwing money in all the right places – booze and women. In the end, however, his spending habits caught up to him, and he died pennilessly, but hey! You only live once!

Do not answer the phone!

Oh, Kim! This is one phone call that you should not have taken. We know that you honor Jesus above all, but withold the temptation and do not answer! E when he calls, you will be summoned to the afterlife, where you would not be able to answer any more calls.

I See Dumb People

This headstone’s inscription is about the famous movie, the Sixth Sense, where the young boy famously said: “I See Dead People.” Currently, however, “I see dumb people” may be more appropriate. Props for humor and creativity!

Daddy’s Language

This guy has his way with his words. The use of made-up language is not new, but engraving it on a headstone is! What is the best way to describe a person than the way they talked? Well, this headstone is a vernacular tribute to the person who passed away. We are not sure what those words mean, but they sure sound funny, don’t you think?

Kay’s Fudge

Kay’s fudge must be really good if enough people were asking for it that it be written right on her tombstone! Thanks, Kay!

Interesting Perspective

They’re technically not wrong; none of us asked to be born! We hope this person managed to have a half-decent life, even if they didn’t consent to it!

Cats, Cats Everywhere

Now we’re curious, how many cats did she have? Did she get so many cats that they took over her house and she was trampled to death? So many questions!

More Recipes

Well golly, we’re just getting a whole smorgasbord of desserts today, aren’t we?

Now All They Need is a Shake

Were Burger and Fries friends? If so, we hope they made constant jokes about it to everyone, because otherwise what would be the point of even being friends in the first place…

It’s What You Make of it

Or, you could choose to put a positive spin on it: They lived a great long life and made positive impacts on everyone around them! Hopefully, that’s the case, anyway, because otherwise, this is pretty awkward…

Guess He Got the Last Laugh

We’re sorry, but imagine listening to the eulogy for “Mr. Angus Hehe.” Hopefully, he had a sense of humor because there would be some snorts.

Ol’ Married Couple

There are a lot of ominous jokes and assumptions we could make based on this tombstone, but we’ll let you decide for yourself what went down between these two! But if one thing’s for sure, this was almost certainly an old married couple with a sense of humor!

That’s All Folks!

If you weren’t aware, Mel Blanc was the voice behind beloved characters Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, and many other Looney Tunes characters. So what better thing to mark his tombstone with than Porky Pig’s catchphrase, “That’s all folks!”?

LOL

“LOL” could stand for a lot of things in this case. It could be this person’s initials, or it could stand for “laughing out loud.” OR, it could be short for “Life Offering Lemons,” “Levitating Over Liquid,” or “Licking Our Lollies.” The possibilities are endless.
