Here’s how celebrity faces have changed in the past 30 years.

When you’ve either grown up with a celebrity or found yourself ageing along with them, it can be difficult to see them change at all. Unless you watch some of their earliest performances back to back with their newest work, you could convince yourself that they haven’t actually changed or aged at all.

Thankfully, one clever Instagramer has been putting celebrities’ earliest pictures alongside more recent ones, in order to figure out how different they actually look. See if you can spot the differences below!

1. Keanu Reeves

For most of the 1990s, Keanu Reeves was known as the loveable goofball from Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.

Nowadays, he’s probably more known for being the vengeful hitman with a soft spot for puppies in the John Wick series, even if he did recently reprise the role of Ted in Bill & Ted Face the Music.

2. Zac Efron

In 2006, Zac Efron had only just starred in the first High School Musical movie, and had no idea that the role of Troy Bolton was about to change his life forever.

Nowadays, he’s played everything from a college kid in Bad Neighbours to a serial killer in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, and has recently won a whole new audience with his documentary series, Down to Earth with Zac Efron.

3. Paul Rudd

In the 1990s, baby-faced Paul Rudd was mostly known for playing the snarky step-brother Josh in Clueless, as well as for appearing in a truly bizarre Halloween sequel.

As of 2019, Rudd had cemented himself as a beloved part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even if he looks like he hasn’t aged a day.

4. Rachel McAdams

In 2005, Rachel McAdams was fresh off the one-two punch of Mean Girls and The Notebook, two huge movies that skyrocketed her to stardom.

2019 McAdams is just as polished and fresh-faced, only now she has also starred in Doctor Strange.

5. Sandra Bullock

1990s Sandra Bullock was probably best known as an action star, who was unafraid to star in films like Speed and Who Do I Gotta Kill?

2019 Bullock still has a reputation for playing hard-as-nails characters, but nowadays she’s more known for her roles in Bird Box and Ocean’s 8.

6. Jennifer Aniston

1990s Jennifer Aniston was one of the biggest stars on the planet, thanks to her role as the loveable Rachel on Friends.

Even today, Aniston is one of the most recognisable household names in the world, even if she’s no longer sporting the infamous choppy bob that so many people scrambled to replicate in the 90s.

7. Robert Downey Jr.

The Robert Downey Jr. of the 1990s arguably has the best years of his career still ahead of him, and he just doesn’t know it yet.

2020 RDJ has cemented his legacy as a legendary actor, in no small part thanks to the MCU, and has even started work on a third Sherlock Holmes movie.

8. Jennifer Garner

2001 Jennifer Garner had just catapulted into stardom, thanks to her role on the television series Alias.

Almost 20 years later, and Garner has appeared in everything from Dallas Buyers Club to The Odd Life of Timothy Green, as well as looking basically identical to her early 2000s self.

9. Amanda Seyfried

Amanda Seyfried was already pretty recognisable in 2005, mostly thanks to her role as the hilariously ditzy Karen in Mean Girls.

However, compared to 2020 Seyfried she had a lot ahead of her, including blockbuster smash hits like Les Miserables and Mamma Mia!

10. Michael B. Jordan

2003 Michael B. Jordan was right at the very beginning of his career, having only really appeared in an episode of The Sopranos and The Wire.

2019 Jordan is one of the most successful actors on the planet, with roles such as the Killmonger in Black Panther under his belt, and a slightly better moustache to boot.

11. Leonardo DiCaprio

1990s Leonardo DiCaprio was already doing pretty well for himself. He’d starred in an infamously wild adaptation of Romeo & Juliet, and had earned himself an Oscar nomination for his performance in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.

2020 DiCaprio has at long last gotten his Oscar win, and has also gotten some facial hair. It’s hard to say which he might be the most proud of.

12. Jensen Ackles

Jensen Ackles of the 1990s had only just started his career, with a stint on Days of Our Lives under his belt, and not much else.

2020 Jensen Ackles has had 15 years of experience in Supernatural, and is also set to appear on the hit series The Boys.

13. Tom Hardy

15. Emma Watson

Emma Watson has been working since the early 2000s, so by 2006, she was right smack in the middle of her Harry Potter career.

In 2005, Avril Lavigne’s career as a pop-punk princess was in full swing, with two albums out and a third on the way.

18. Hilary Duff

2002 Hilary Duff was right in the middle of her Lizzie McGuire years, and had some of her biggest successes ahead of her, even if she was already a beloved kids TV star.

20. Rihanna

2005 Rihanna was a huge success right off the bat, with her first album going certified platinum and making her a star the world over.

However, 2020 Rihanna is at the helm of a cosmetics and lingerie empire, as well as having multiple platinum albums, so she’s probably better off.

21. Sarah Paulson

By 2002, Sarah Paulson had already been acting for around a decade, but her roles were nowhere near as high profile as the ones that she is being offered now.

As of 2019, Paulson has won a Primetime Emmy award, as well as three Critics’ Choice Television Awards.

22. Reese Witherspoon

In the early 1990s, Reece Witherspoon had some of her biggest roles ahead of her, from Cruel Intentions to Legally Blonde.

2020 Reece Witherspoon is now a veteran producer and the voice of Tinker Bell, but her love of pink lipstick has stuck around.

23. Alicia Silverstone

Alicia Silverstone got her start appearing in Aerosmith music videos, which made her an instantly recognisable face even before anyone knew her name.

2019 Silverstone is right on the cusp of appearing as one of the parents in The Babysitters Club, as well as voicing Queen Marlena in Masters of the Universe: Revelations.

24. Jared Leto

In the 1990s, Jared Leto was best known as the white-haired dude from Fight Club, who in retrospect was just about to devastate everyone with his harrowing performance in Requiem for a Dream.

26. Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp was a prolific actor in the 1990s, having developed a reputation as a heartthrob thanks to his roles in Cry-Baby, 21 Jump Street and A Nightmare on Elm Street.
